From Apple

From Apple
Hear, my children, the instruction of a father. Proverbs 4:1
When I first became a Christian, I never thought that I will be a missionary. I was single at 26 when I informed my father that I want to be a missionary. He said, “Becoming a missionary is like crossing a bridge. Once you crossed it, you can not come back.” Looking back in my childhood, it helps me think of good memories My childhood has good memories of being a family, of having parents developing love and good values. Thirteen years in missions, I am now a wife and a mother to two wonderful children. There was no time in the past when I looked for a bridge to come back to; instead, I am looking for more bridges to cross because now, each crossing is a joyful journey with my family.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Family News

Jeph attended a “Rabbit Church Planting Seminar” last July while Apple attended the same this August. “Thanks Empower Mission Team for this training. This is a helpful tool in our endeavor here in Thailand.” Jabez turned 7 last July 15 while Apple celebrated her birthday last July 29. As we grow older, we try to teach our children about our faith in the Lord Jesus. As God add years to our life, we pray as a family, that we will continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jabez was given a scholarship grant this year at ChiangMai International School (CMIS) due to our status as missionaries here in Thailand. He started school this August. Just recently, Joy had cough, colds, sore throat and high fever but negative for AH1N1. However, his sickness did develop to severe asthma that even the doctor adviced for hospital confinement. But with proper home care, right medicines and lots of prayers, Joy is getting better now. Praise God, and thanks to your prayers!

Those who are planted in the house of the Lord… will still bear fruit in old age. Ps 92: 13-14

Day Care / MKL News

MKL and the School-In- The-Village was blessed with 2 Singaporean volunteers—- ZYKL—for 2 months (June-July). Their host family is that of the first few settlers at MKL and the ‘peace man’ of the village who usually officiates religious activities. ZYKL taught in the Day Care, practiced their faith and boldly shared Jesus in every opportunity they can. During their last night at the village, we had a good time of fellowship with their host family, and shared about the love of the Lord Jesus that led us to come to MKL. The Day Care also held a Farewell party for them, with special songs from the children and some special gifts from the ladies of the village. ZYKL, in turn, sang a special song in the Karen language while Apple shared the Word. While the villagers tried to bless the volunteers (by tying white cords on their wrists), we also had the opportunity to pray for the ladies and children of MKL. The gathering ended with Karen and Thai food for lunch enjoyed by everyone.

GOD IS SO GOOD… HE ANSWERS PRAYERS.

Hope House will be on its 6th year by November and most of you have seen with us all these time. If not for God’s guidance and favor, as well as your prayers, support and encouragement, Hope House would have had stopped by now. Please join us in prayer as God is leading us to start our own Foundation. At present, we are Thai Foundation as our covering; sadly, we heard just recently that it will be closed due to ‘internal problems. Jeph had an experience of processing a Foundation before and we learned a lot from it. We believe it’s the right time for us to have Hope House Foundation. If God is leading you to participate in this step that we will be doing in the near future please let us know

Special Prayer

**Please pray for our family’s health, as AH1N1 is still very rampant here in Chiang Mai; pray especially for Joy that he will be able to develop immunity to the allergens that causes his asthma attacks;

**Pray for our Hope House children: studies, health, spiritual growth;

**Pray for the parents of our HH children who are in their respective villages: provision for daily needs, health, protection;

June 2009 Update

Picture2Since the opening of school last month, it is a great joy for us to have 18 children in Hope House—nine of which are new; we have five 1st graders this year, four from the Mae Klang Luang Day Care school that was established by Hope House two years ago. We thank God that the children are adjusting well in school, while doing their daily tasks in Hope House. In May 2004, eight children from Tadusuki and other nearby villages in Mae Chaem district were accepted in Hope House. Five of them continued to stay in Hope House and are now in 6th grade. Praise the Lord! As we look back on the last five years with these children, we saw how they were transformed-physically, emotionally and spiritually. We are happy with how they kept their old clothes so that they can pass these on to their younger siblings every time they go home. We cry with them when they share with us their experiences on how they feel when they are back in the village or when they are in Hope House. Just recently, with our friend-preacher Keith D’s challenge after his preaching, we felt so elated when all of them wanted to be prayed-for because they all decided they want to hear God’s voice, just like the boy Samuel did. Halleluiah! God gives us the opportunity to care for these children, to love and show them how to follow and obey the Lord and the authority.Picture1Picture3

Day Care News

We thank God for the opportunity to work in partnership with the people in MaeKlangLuang Village in the area of education.  We now have 31 students in the Day Care. After two years of working with us, Kruu Zae is now being trained to be a leader among village leaders, thus, he has to relinquish his teaching position so that he can oversee four Karen villages, including his own. The parents of the Day Care students voted among themselves as to who will replace Khruu Zae, and decided on Khun Sai. She will be working along with Khruu Laah, our faithful and dedicated teacher. Hope House, through Teacher Ruth, continues to provide the curriculum and books for the Day Care, including special activities and other programs.  The Thai-government, through the OBOTO, provides fund for the students’ lunch.Picture8

May 2009: Doing the Work of God

From conception to its six years of existence, God is the author of Hope House.

We are never exempted from the testing of our faith, yet every time the ground shakes under our feet, we always go back to His Word: being steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord

We need to be reminded constantly that our task is to work with God’s strength and to bring praise and glory to God, not to ourselves.

For us, the important thing is that God is pleased with what He sees in us.

Hope House Staff:

Picture2Kiatisak and Koy arrived in Hope House in January 2009 with their 2 children Ole and Judi. They used to work in a hostel but decided to pursue more Bible training. When they finished their 2 years of Bible learning, they proceeded to serve in Hope House.

Picture3Niwet was Apple’s student in the mountain hostel twelve years ago. He finished his college education in ChiangRai, and also worked in a hostel after that.  Last February, he attended a Bible course training to know more about the Lord Jesus. By the end of this month, he will start working as a     full- time tutor for the children and as helper in office work, especially that which concerns Thai translation.

Our Children

 We now have eighteen children from different villages staying in Hope House.
With the same vision and passion, we and staffs want to serve the Lord faithfully. Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing.”

(John 15:5)

Whatever happens, the future of Hope House is in His hands.

Day Care (School-in-the-Village Project)

The Day Care (School-In-The-Village project) is on its 3rd year.

Picture12Picture11Praise God for this summer’s  volunteers who came to help make the Day Care Center more colorful.

Picture13Thanks to Teacher Ruth for her time spent in  making the quarterly students’ workbook. Kruu Zae and Kruu Laah are looking forward for more positive  result in the school. Over twenty childen are expected to enroll in the Day Care this year. Three children from the Day Care are already accepted in the Government Primary School in the low land and will be staying in Hope House.

We are praying that their time with us in the hostel will bring forth eternal result, not only to these children but more so to their families back in the village.

Our Family

Picture14We thank the Lord for the opportunity to have a family retreat last month, despite the political turmoil going on in this country and Joy being sent to the hospital because of asthma. We were also able to have time of fellowship  with other Filipino co-workers in the vineyard and friends in Bangkok, which  provided encouragement and good memories for us to cherish.

Picture15We did not enroll Jabez in the Thai school this time around. No doubt  that he can read, write and communicate in Thai well, but as his level goes up, we find it more difficult for us to help him in his studies. He will be attending Grace International School, which will start in August. As parents, we desire to give him the best education that he can have. We’re praying for the provision for Jabez’ school needs.

Please pray with us!

Harmony among the staffs, volunteers and  children;

Good health and safety for Hope House family;

Provision for the daily needs of Hope House ministry;

Clear direction and wisdom in all our decision-making.

Our deepest Thank You to…

Maranatha AG team who built the boys’ new dorm last February; Claudia & friends, and Joyce for the toilets renovation and potable water installation; Cindie for the toys, towels, stove and 2 bunk beds; Provision for one set of Computer and LCD projector; to everyone who regularly support Hope House and my family: financially, encouragement and prayers; and our visitors and volunteers in Hope House: Carol, P.A., Deanne & Bo, and Rev. Chris.

No service for Christ goes unnoticed by Him. God bless you more.

Hope House Update: April 2009

Hope House Update: April 2009

Greetings in the Mighty Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

As we finish with the recent school year, all Hope House volunteers and staff went to a refreshing retreat that we believe everybody deserves. This gave us an opportunity to reflect on what we are doing,  to commune with God, and to encourage  one another. It was also a time of refocusing our vision and of asking God on how we can be more effective in the ministry.  on what more is in store for us.  As we reflect on what He is doing in our midst, we are humbled by His grace and provision that comes at the right time. We praise and thank God for the victory that He has given us.

  picture4            The Hope House staffs and volunteers with kids during the retreat…refreshed & happy

As we have been refreshed by God, we now look forward for the upcoming school year in Hope House with high hopes and faith to face the challenges ahead. The construction of the new dormitory for the male students has given us the capacity to receive additional children in the hostel. We are expecting to cater to ten more students this May. This means that we will need to look for scholarship sponsors for the new students and three additional beddings. We will need to add more uniforms and school supplies for the sake of the new (incoming) students. We believe that this is part of God’s promotion and we believe that He is able to supply all that this ministry needs! All of these are for His glory!

  picture61          Team-building activity                                                Laah presenting the group reflection

It is just less than a month now before the start of the new school year. We have just finished repainting some parts of the Hostel facilities. We are also in the course of repairing and improving some of the areas of the Hostel building and the new dormitory. Also in relation with the new building, we will need to improve our water system with purifiers and new pump to serve the new population of the students. Please help us pray for the funds needed for these improvements, especially for the water system.

MaeKlangLuang Outreach

This May, before the school starts in MaeKlangLuang we will have an opportunity to visit the village of our recipients and make follow-up with their parents. This is a very good chance for us to strengthen our relationships with them and share the gospel in the whole community. We are excited in this schedule for we know that it will reinforce our outreach plans for this tribal group. Also, include in your prayers our efforts in looking for sponsors that will shoulder the expenses for the students’ books in the MaeKlangLuang Day Care Center.

We thank the Lord for bringing you into our lives; our cause is your ministry as well. We are partners in this endeavor, and we thank you for including us in your prayers.

May the Lord of the Harvest bless you the desires of your heart, thank you.

For His Glory,

Jeph and Apple

Prayer Points for May 2009

hope_house_018Hope House

Out of the 6 children who will attend Grade 1 this school year, we will be adopting 4 of them to be part of Hope House.

dsc003712

As the number of children in Hope House increases from 12 to 20 this May 2009, we need additional beds, beddings, kitchenware, books, clothing and personal needs for their schooling. We are raising additional funds for the school bus as their transportation going to school and also for Tribal Outreach.

MKL Day Care Center

As Jesus moves in the hearts of these people thru the day care center, we believe that church planting is the next step in this community development. The seeds of love are already growing as we continuously share the love of Jesus in this place.

 This year, we are praying to find a lot that we can use to build the ministry center in the village (not a building with a cross)

2nd Recognition Day at MKL Day Care Center

Another milestone in the history of Hope House Ministry happened last March 19, 2009. It was the 2nd Recognition Day ever held in MKL Day Care Center in Northern, Thailand spearheaded by Jeph and Apple.

The team went up the mountains last March 18 to prepare the things needed for the following day. Upon arrival they saw the children playing and practicing for their presentation. They gave the children candies, prepared the stage and had a short meeting with the teachers.

day-care-012

At night, Apple joined the village meeting with the village leaders and guardians of the children. She thanked them for their  cooperation and said its all by the grace of God that enabled her and Jeph to continue the Day Care Center in the village. We ended the long day with prayers dedicating to God all the activities for the next day.

On March 19, the program started as the graduates marched wearing their toga suits towards the stage. The village leader opened the program. He welcomed everyone and thanked Jeph and Apple for establishing the day care center in their village.

The main speaker, Ptr. Rudy preached about God’s love for everyone. He shared that God has a wonderful plan for all and God can give peace and rest to those who are weary. He challenged the people they must welcome Jesus to be in their village if they wanted to experience the good life that he talked about. Praise God! All parents raised their hands as sign of their agreement.

dsc00349

Ptr. Rudy ended the message when he said that the way to have good life is when they are willing to receive Jesus and will invite Jesus in their hearts. Truly, after years of reaching these people and building close relationship, the people are willing to listen and know who Jesus is.

Praise God for the 27 Karen tribal children who graduated in this village from nursery to level 3. They were given certificates and medals. Out of the 27 children, 6 of them are now ready to study Grade 1 this coming school year. They are now equipped to study in a Thai public school with other Thai people.

 After the awarding, the village leaders gave certificates to the teachers as their way of appreciation. Likewise, there were 2 students and a mother who expressed their appreciation to Jeph and Apple for giving the children the opportunity to learn and study without leaving their own village.

Jeph closed the program by giving a short message. He told the people that the reason why they are helping them is because he wanted to share God’s love to them. He clarified that he does not claim the work in that village nor was he building any religion. All he wanted was to share the importance of having a relationship with Jesus.

dsc004461

At the end of the ceremony, the team gave toys to the children and ate lunch with the villagers.  They also met the guardians of the children to further discuss the activities at the day care center.

dsc005162

During the meeting, one of the teachers testified and thanked Jeph and Apple for choosing her as the school’s teacher for she was blessed to know the couple and be part of this school.

Hope House and MKL Day Care children go ChiangMai Zoo

Last March 7, 2009 Hope House and MKL Day Care students went to Chiang Mai Zoo. The ministry rented 1 school bus for Hope House children and another 2 pick-up trucks to fetch the children and guardians from the village. It was their first time to go to this place due to lack of transportation in their area. Almost 40 children and guardians enjoyed this free tour. It was their first time. Children were given coloring books and writing materials during the activity. They saw different animals and animal shows as the tour guide ushered them. Lunch and transportation

English Camp

Prayer request

** Jeph & Apple – wisdom and leadership in Hope House and all its outreach programs.

** Safety and good health for all the staffs and children.

** More blessings, joy and good health to all of you who support Hope House.

English Camp

April 28-29 we had our English camp in the Karen village where we are currently reaching out.  When we arrived we stayed in a nice bamboo house, we visited and talked to the villagers and stopped in one house for a welcome drink— their own-produced brewed coffee, and a meeting with some of the village leaders.

We thank the Lord for our friends: Benji & Iris and our friends from Bangkok (ate Lina & ate Emma, Princess and Anthony)  who came to help us teach.

That night, the village leader came and had the village meeting. Though it was promoted for about 6 weeks, our camp coincided  with the Villages’ Sports Day which left us with 11 students ,one of which is our Day Care teacher, a former monk.

The camp had a personal touch. In closing, we dramatized the Prodigal Son and Jeph explained the truth about our Father who is waiting for His children to come to Him for His grace and love by knowing Jesus. We ended the camp with prayer of salvation for all of them.

House Church

 David said, “I will build a house for the Lord.” God said, “No you won’t, I will build it and with whom I choose.”

Hope House by God’s grace is now on its 5th year. It’s been our goal to disciple the children to be a good witness to their family and the society when they leave our care. All this time, we also have the burden to reach out to the Thai community.

 “Welcome to our house church!”

Praise God for the opportunity to minister to different schools and villages impacting the community. We believe it’s high time for us to start a house church in advancing the harvest in Chomthong district. We had 6 worship services done in a new house church. The children have the opportunity to song leading and Sunday School. Apple and I with co-Filipino missionaries are alternately leading the worship service. So, if you happen to visit us, please join our      worship service in Chomthong.

The human way is to see a need, and apply our strength and wisdom to meet it. God’s way is to see a need, sense our inadequacy to meet the need, then ask God for His ability to fulfil it.
